Activity 1

A. Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow:

        In 1869, Bose joined Hare School and six years later he was admitted to St. Xavier's School in Calcutta. He passed the Entrance Examination and joined St. Xavier's College of Calcutta. It was here that he came in contact with Jesuit Father Eugene Lafont who played a significant role in developing his interest in natural science. Later, Bose went to England and secured admission in Christ College, Cambridge, to study Natural Science. In 1884, he received the Natural Science Tripos from the University of Cambridge and a BSc. Degree from the University of London.

A. Read the following passage and answer the questions given below:

    We would find a hammer for him, and then he would have lost sight of the mark he had made on the wall, where the nail was to go in. Each of us had to get up on the chair beside him, and see if we could find it. We would each discover it in a new place, and he would call us all fools.

    Trying to reach a point three inches beyond what was possible for him to reach, the string would slip, and down he would slide on to the piano.

ACTIVITY 1

1. Rearrange the following sentences:


(a) Each of us would discover a new place. (4)

Ans:- Uncle considered each of them to be fools because each of them found the mark in a new place.

(c) How did Uncle Podger fall on the piano?

Ans :- Trying to reach a point three inches beyond what was possible for him to reach Uncle Podger fell on the piano on the piano.

ACTIVITY 4

4. Write the summary of the given passage:

            The constable came. He took me by the hand and pushed me out. My luggage was also taken out. I refused to go to the other compartment and the train steamed away. I went and sat in the waiting room, keeping my hand-bag with me, leaving the other luggage where it was. The railway authorities had taken charge of it.

            A police constable forcibly expelled the passenger from his compartment including his luggage. The passenger was asked to transfer his compartment which he refused to do. When the train departed, taking the hand-bag he went and sat in the waiting room keeping other luggage in charge of the railway authority.
